NLV Mayor John Lee survived child porn on his iPad. Will Pat Spearman be felled for supporting CRT?

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

While Republicans are building entire campaigns around their opposition to the intellectual movement known as Critical Race Theory, one North Las Vegas Democrat, Senator Pat Spearman, has laid down the gauntlet by making her support of "CRT" clear today. Spearman's embrace of the controversial topic on Twitter comes as she has been ramping up her social media presence in her attempt at winning the mayorship of Nevada's fourth largest municipality.

While North Las Vegas voters have often had to engage with controversy surrounding their politicians, including child porn being found on incumbent Mayor John Lee's iPad, the insertion of Critical Race Theory into the discourse is certain to galvanize those both for and against the long time Senator during the course of her campaign. One elected official, well versed on North Las Vegas politics, speculated as to why Spearman would even weigh in on the subject, "Maybe it's to get national funding?" Another comment, this one from an esteemed North Las Vegas resident with a keen interest in the mayoral contest asked rhetorically, "I thought that's not something a Mayor has jurisdiction over?"

With the general election less than a year away, it is now almost guaranteed the non partisan race, and Senator Pat Spearman herself, will become a flash point for discussions regarding culture, education, and the role of the executive that extend well beyond her city's borders.
