Shelly Cruz: Citizen Soldier and CCSD Principal preps for election battle in Las Vegas' Ward 6 race

Mother, Principal, Military Officer, Union Wife. Michelee Cruz-Crawford is a person of many titles, and now she has added another. Candidate for the open Las Vegas City Council Ward 6 seat.

While having announced her intention to contest the seat prior to current Las Vegas Councilwoman Michele Fiore jumping into the Nevada Governor's race, Cruz-Crawford may be facing an even more formidable opponent in her effort to represent her long time home Ward behind the dais.

Shelly, as Cruz-Crawford is affectionately known, will now be facing Fiore's appointed Planning Commissioner Lou DeSalvio. DeSalvio, president of Laborers Union 872, is a one time challenger for the Nevada Assembly, falling short in 2012 as the Democrat's nominee. However in the intervening decade he has solidified his political base and recently received the endorsement of Ward 2 Councilwoman Victoria Seaman. This across the aisle support, along with the backing of the powerful 872, makes him the presumed front runner. Yet the novice candidate hasn't been deterred in her plans, with sources telling Political.tips Cruz-Crawford is in the process of compiling a robust campaign team.

With Fiore still serving, and two community fixtures in Cruz-Crawford and DeSalvio having announced their candidacies, the residents of Ward 6 and the City of Las Vegas as a whole, will be watching intently.
